Occupation: Architect
Marital Status: Married No. of Children: 2 Spouse Name (GPHS Class): Ki Hackney Contact Status: Registered (6/20/07) Comments: After completing architecture school at U of Michigan, my plan was to work in the east for 2 years and then return to GP. Any eastern city, except New York. However, thanks to a college girl friend, I ended up in New York and it has been the perfect place for me. I apprenticed with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and then started my own practice, doing mainly residential work in New York, the Hamptons and Connecticut. I have had many great clients (including Drew Peslar, from our class) and have had the opportunity to work on some great projects. These have included more than 100 new houses and some great renovations. Domino magazine's website currently has a blog by Brooke Williams describing one of my small, but enjoyable, projects. I hope to never have to retire. After some time in New York I met my wife, Ki Hackney. She is a writer and has written two books, “People & Pearls" (Harper/Collins) and “The Charm of Charms" (Harry Abrams) as well as writing for various publications. We have two daughters. Caroline was graduated from Darmouth College and is about to complete Columbia Business School. She and her husband were divorced recently but she still lives about a mile north of us. Christina was graduated from Trinity College (Hartford). After living her entire life on the Upper East Side, she took the plunge and moved to the extremely hip Williamburg section of Brooklyn and loves it. She does costuming for TV and the movies. I would like to add that, surprisingly, New York was a great place to bring up children. We live on the East Side and spend many weekends at our house in Sag Harbor, L.I. We also spend some time in Vero Beach, Florida. I really find my work interesting enough, that my only real hobbies are gardening (perennials and some great sculpted privet hedges), cooking and some sailing at the Devon Yacht Club in East Hampton, where I serve on the Building & Grounds committee. Ki and I recently returned from an amazing trip to India. We went with a group of 10 friends and loved every minute of it. India seems to be a place you either love or hate. Curiously, one of the couples in our group, who were friends of friends that we have never met, also went to "The High". They are John and Peachy Retenbach (Class of 66). We had a great time trading stories. |
