Chuck bought Miss America IX in Algonac, MI in 1970. Made of Philippine mahogany, the 30-foot long, 6,000-pound boat had no fittings, and the original 12-cylinder Packard airplane engines were missing. He had the boat refitted and two Chevrolet engines installed in place of the Packards. It became a favorite at boat shows, and Mistele kept her in storage in Detroit between those shows and occasional outings. In 1983, he moved to Charleston, and in 1996, he relocated to Lake Murray. In 2007, he relocated the newly-restored boat to Lake Murray and shows the boat at Lake Greenwood and at the South Carolina Yacht Club in Hilton Head. |

Brothers George and Michael Fraser got together in Portland recently to join their long-time friend, Brian Murphy. This was the first time the three men had been together since 1961. George (GPHS '59) was one of the top musicians in Michigan during his short stay there, playing both the trumpet and coronet. He now lives in Discovery Bay, CA and is semi-retired, focusing on racing vintage NASCARs and playing golf. Brian (GPHS '60) ran an accounting firm in Las Vegas and, after selling the company around the turn of the century, he retired to Midway, UT to concentrate on his photography. Visit his website to view his extraordinary work. Michael (GPHS '61) started a hospital management consulting business to complement his family real estate partnership. Visit his website to learn more about what Michael is up to these days. |
